Global Solar Industry Saved from 2017 Cliff-Edge as US Set to Extend Solar ITCDecember 16, 2015In the early hours of this morning, the U.S. Congress agreed on a bill that would see the solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC) extended by an additional five years, as part of a $1.15 trillion spending bill. The House is expected to vote on the legislation on Thursday or Friday. Although sudden opposition could block immediate approval of the full bill, it looks close to certain that the ITC extension will go ahead.

KKR acquires majority stake in Gestamp SolarJuly 21, 2015On 21 July 2015, private equity firm KKR announced it was acquiring 80% of solar developer Gestamp Asetym Solar S.L. (Gestamp Solar) from Gestamp Renewables. The transaction values Gestamp Solar at $1 billion. French utility Engie buys PV developer SolairedirectJuly 06, 2015On 1 July 2015, French utility Engie (formerly GDF Suez) announced the acquisition of compatriot solar developer Solairedirect for €200 million. South Africa awards 415 MW of PV - mulls 1.8 GW additional renewables tenderApril 17, 2015On 16 April 2015, South Africa’s Department of Energy (DoE) announced the winners of Round 4 of the Renewable Energy IPP Programme (REIPPP). A total of 415 MWac were awarded to solar PV projects out of 1.1 GW of overall capacity. The DoE also announced plans for an extraordinary bid window for 1.8 GW of renewable power generation capacity in June 2015, in addition to Round 5, which is scheduled for 2016. Egypt announces string of power investment agreements, including 5 GW of PV projectsMarch 17, 2015During the Egypt Economic Development Conference (EEDC) on 13 to 15 March, 2015, the government signed more than 40 Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with power plant developers, including agreements on coal, wind, solar and hydro generation. Two of these MOUs were signed with solar PV developers SkyPower Global SARL (SkyPower) and Terra Sola Group AG (Terra Sola) to develop a combined PV capacity of up to 5 GW.
