The Teardown BOM Analysis is a unique IHS Markit service that leverages all our cost benchmarking services and helps inform your supplier negotiations with best price ranges for the components you use in order to facilitate fair negotiations and favorable outcomes. Multiple price points from different IHS Markit services help triangulate and present confidence in price ranges available to you and low benchmark prices you can target.
- Leverages IHS Markit BOM Intelligence - franchised distributor best prices on millions of parts updated daily; backed by the industry’s largest electronic components database.
- Crowd Sourced Contract Pricing - Contract pricing for components from real customers purchasing electronic components on contract volume, not spot buys (Powered by Lytica).
- Teardowns - “should cost” Device specific pricing from teardown snapshot in time and correlates to the annual volume assumption for that specific device.
- Accurate Correlation - Cross-check against millions of parts, prices, and multiple pricing sources. (i.e. – does the contract pricing received make sense against those reference points).
Frequently Asked Questions
Q – How many part numbers can you analyze? 10? 100? 1,000? 100,000?
A – IHS Markit will make reasonable efforts to turn around results of a product BOM (typically 100-2000 MPNs) in ~5 business days. Larger parts list may require custom time frames. This will be determined after the % coverage analysis is performed on the submitted MPNs list.
Q – Do I get pricing on ALL parts I provide? If not, how do you charge when there are parts you can’t provide pricing guidance?
A – Only manufacture part numbers that match our databases will receive pricing analysis and the cost of BOM Analysis is based on those matched parts.
Q - Why don’t you include Display, Memory, MEMS, or key components from your other research reports like Key Mobile Component Price Tracker?
A – A Teardown BOM/AVL Analysis methodology maintains a part number based focus, whereas higher value parts are more description/spec driven and tracked in our other research areas within IHS Markit Technology.
Q - I have questions about results of report and want to speak to someone?
A – This is a data driven product with algorithmic results. We will support a 1 hour conference call to answer questions directly related to the report to discuss perceived anomalies, particular MPNs of interest, and the context of the data provided. This will not be a review of every single part number.
Q - Can you provide a forecast for all the parts? Can you use the forecast results or algorithms from other pricing services to forecast my parts (like you do in CPL?)
A – Teardown BOM Analysis is strictly a snapshot in time pricing tool. Our sources for pricing information may have different cadence/frequency of available data and therefore only a snapshot is provided. Component Price Landscape is a separate service that provides forecasting on part numbers that we have consistent data feeds over time to enable trending and forecast analysis.
Q - What if my pricing ends up being better than anything you present? Do I get a rebate or discount?
A – Teardown BOM Analysis helps confirm good cost targets achieved and exposes remaining cost saving opportunities. All parts have to be analyzed regardless of cost saving opportunity outcome; therefore, there is no rebate or discount.
