The IHS PV Module Customer Insight Survey 2016 indicates changes in product demand, and reveals the increasing complexity and diversification of solar module technologies. At a global level, 72% of survey respondents indicated they are planning to purchase high efficiency multicrystalline modules and 67% were planning to purchase high efficiency monocrystalline modules – this is compared to less than 60% of respondents last year. This reveals the strong global trend towards high-efficiency modules. The survey indicates that the products with the strongest growth next year will be; 1500 V (+143%), PERC (+54%), Dual Glass (+48%), and Smart modules (+27%). Standard bifacial and HJT modules remain niche technologies but also grew to reach 14% and 8% of the sample respondents in 2017.

Differences do exist across regions. For instance, off-grid modules will be purchased by more than 50% of companies surveyed in APAC where there is also a higher interest for modules with half-cells. European companies showed a greater interest for PERC modules and the US companies for AC modules.
