On 23 June 2016, the United Kingdom voted to exit the European Union. The UK will exit two years from the date of its formal notice to the European Union that it is leaving (under Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon).

For the photovoltaics sector, IHS projects that the referendum will have a direct negative impact on planned installations for the remainder of the year, further weakening a slowing market. In the long-term, the outlook for PV will depend on future national climate policy.
