Need more Information?

Solar costs are an intensely debated and analyzed issue. Cost data per company is not or only partially disclosed and makes cost benchmarking across regions a challenge. While cost data is diffi cult to access in many industries, it becomes even more difficult in solar where fast innovation cycles, productivity and competition change company data quarter by quarter. To determine current production costs from major solar module manufacturers in a standardized way, this study focuses on leading suppliers (Tier 1) by region, comparing China, other Asian countries, Europe and the U.S.. Albeit, there are some elements which will never be able to be truly benchmarked between various manufacturers, IHS intends to provide an independent view for discussions between global stakeholders.

IHS has been engaged by Solar Alliance for Europe (SAFE) to review PV manufacturing cost differences globally. Focus is on Tier 1 PV module suppliers, the leading regional and global manufacturers concerning production capacity and production output
